A BRIEF HISTORY OF GARDEN CITY
| Created in 1869 at the sole expense of A.T. Stewart, Garden City has flourished
as a well-planned suburban community with over 21,000 residents. Its beautiful tree
lined streets and handsome homes are complimented by a centrally located business and
shopping district. The village also includes the four-star Garden City Hotel, the
Nassau County Government Seat Complex, the beautifully landscaped campus of Adelphi
University, a magnificent Gothic Cathedral, a nationally recognized public school system,
three private country clubs, each with an eighteen hole golf course, well respected
Village municipalities, Police and Fire Departments, an extensive Recreation Department
which includes the highly acclaimed Garden City Pool and Community Park complex and five
railroad stations that conveniently link Garden City to New York City and the rest of Long
Island. |
